Video – CNY Fertility Injection Lessons: Bravelle

Hi, I’m Lisa Stack, the CNY Fertility Support Coordinator and Teah is going to instruct us on injecting Bravelle.

Teah:  Hi.  So, for our Bravelle injection we need our medication, a 3-ml syringe with a 22-gauge needle, and a 27-gauge needle to give the injection with.  So, to start, Bravelle comes with 5 vials of powder, and 5 of water.  For right now, we’re using one vile of powder, and one of water.  In each powder vile, there’s 75 IUs of medication.  For right now, we’re saying the dose is 75.  If your dose is 150, you’ll use two vials of powder, with one water.  So, we’re going to flip off the tops, and clean them off with alcohol.  Then you’ll take your 3-ml syringe, with your large needle attached, and your large needle is for drawing up the water and mixing the medication.  You draw 1-ml of water.  This does get a little tricky and there’s a lot of pressure in here, so you sometimes have to fiddle around with it.  You don’t want any air bubbles, you just want all water.  I have 1ml of water here, and I’ll inject all of the water into the powder, and it dissolves quickly.  Use your needle to mix it.  Don’t shake it if you feel the need to mix a little more, just roll it between your hands.  Then, you’re going to flip your bottle upside down, keep the needle in the water and you’re just going to draw back this solution of powder and water.  It kind of gets a little tricky.   You have to keep your needle very low, so you make sure you get every last drop of medication.  In here, I have all the medication, and I drew back an air bubble.  I don’t want any medication in my needle when I take it off to switch to the smaller needle for the injection.  So, I’ll cap this, twist off the large needle, and switch to my 27-gauge needle.  This is much smaller, make sure your needle’s on tight; you don’t want any medication leaking out the side.   So, my needle’s on, I want to release that air bubble, I don’t want any air in the syringe for when I give my injection.  So, it’s ready now.  To give the injection, you’re going to give it in your belly.  Stay about an inch away from your belly button and below.  So, anywhere you can grab some skin, and you’ll clean it off with alcohol, make sure you dry it or it will sting.  Then you’re going to inject in at a 90-degree angle, so straight in your belly, like a dart.  Go nice and slow.  If you go too quickly, it will burn.   Then, once all the medication is in, you’ll release your skin, pull it out, and you’re all set.
