Video – CNY Fertility Injection Lessons: Follistim Pen

Hi, I’m Lisa stack, the CNY Fertility Support Coordinator.  Today Michelle is going to teach us how to administer Follistim.

Michelle:  Hi, I’m teaching you how to administer Follistim.  Follistim comes in 300-unit cartridges, 600-unit cartridges, or 900-unit cartridges.  What you do is you will actually have your cartridge with your needles; you also have your pen with also extra needles.  Your pen, what you’re going to do is twist the yellow off and now you will apply your cartridge.  Your cartridge fits right on, and now you twist your yellow right back on.  You’ll see an arrow and a yellow line; you’ll know it’s twisted fully once that’s aligned.  Then, you’ll put your needle on.  You’ll peel back your sticker; and you’ll twist on your needle.

Dosing will be done in this window.  Say an average dose would be 125 units, in your window; you’ll dial up to 125.  While you’re dialing, if you go past your 125 units you can restart.  You’ll twist all the way until the end, and you’ll hear a click once it’s to the end, then it winds all the way back down to zero.  We actually will go back to the 125.  In the window is 125, and now you’re ready to give your injection.  We’ll take it’s double capped; you’ll give your injection anywhere hip to hip, below the belly button.  You’ll wipe the area with alcohol.  Make sure the alcohol is 100% dry prior to giving the injection.  You’ll pinch your skin and you’ll inject the medication straight in.  To give the medication, the same knob that you pulled out, you will push to give the medication.  Now you just push your medication.  Once it’s all pushed, you can pull your needle out, and that’s how you administer Follistim.
