Megan & Kevin's Story:

We got married in 2018 and started trying for a baby at the end of 2020. We always knew we wanted kids and thought for sure we'd have a baby in no time! After a year of no luck, we consulted with CNY at the recommendation of Megan's OBGYN. We ran all the tests, and unfortunately, it was simply "unexplained infertility." We tried timed intercourse treatments three times, then IUIs four times. We got so excited with each attempt, but every month we were disappointed.

Finally, in the fall of 2022, we decided to go for it and try IVF. The egg retrieval was successful, and we ended up with several viable embryos.

We transferred our highest-rated frozen embryo in November of 2022 and were so excited that the embryo implanted! We were pregnant! We found out after seven weeks that the embryo split, and we had a rare case of Mono-Mono twins. We were so excited, but unfortunately, we suffered a miscarriage at 16 weeks in February of 2023. It was devastating.

Still, we refused to give up. CNY was amazing at helping Megan do everything she needed to do to prepare for another transfer, including getting a hysteroscopy after the miscarriage. After months of anxious waiting, we were ready to try again. We did another frozen embryo transfer in July of 2023, which unfortunately did not work. Once again, we were devastated.

We took a few months off from the entire process to get our minds right. We both sought therapy and took better care of our overall health. We cried and held each other a lot, knowing we needed to process everything we had been through.

Finally, in November of 2023, a full year after our first transfer, we tried again. We both remember just knowing this transfer was going to work. Our motto that day was "the third time's the charm." The nurses brought us into room three for the transfer, and we took that as a sign. We got McDonald's fries on the way home, and Megan relaxed and meditated for two weeks. Finally, the day before her blood test, she took an at-home test, and she was pregnant!

The pregnancy was very uneventful until the 36-week appointment, when Megan's doctor diagnosed her with preeclampsia, and she had to give birth a month early. Our baby boy Declan came via C-Section on 6/30/24, and we were over the moon happy. He had no medical issues other than being a bit on the smaller side. He was tiny at 4 pounds 13 ounces, but we didn't care, we were so happy to finally have our baby!

He's amazing in every way, and we truly feel the infertility journey just helps us appreciate every single moment so much more. We are so happy CNY was able to help us get to this point.

Favorite Team Member at CNY:

We can't remember anybody's names but every nurse was extremely helpful and caring.

Helpful resources Megan & Kevin found:

Acupuncture, yoga, and therapy.

The Moment:

The moment we first heard Declan cry then be handed to us at the hospital is literally the best moment of our lives. We had been trying for four years, and to finally have our boy was indescribable. It was hard to believe he was so tiny and precious and he was OURS. We both cried our eyes out over the next couple of days out of sheer joy.

Hope, Inspiration and Advice:

Be PATIENT and take care of your mental health! It can be an extremely long journey, and you really have to work hard to take care of yourself with a long-term view. We especially had to focus on our mental health. If you're able, we recommend having a therapist during your journey, as it is so full of ups and downs.
