Donating Eggs to Pay for IVF or Egg Freezing
If the cost of freezing your eggs or IVF has got you like 😳, you may be looking for unique ways to help afford treatment. One unique option available for many pursuing fertility treatments is the egg sharing or split egg cycle.
An Egg Sharing or Split Egg Cycle is an IVF or Egg Freezing cycle where you keep 6 eggs collected during your IVF or Egg Freezing retrieval and all the other eggs are donated to an anonymous recipient. By doing this you will save a great deal of money on your treatment while simultaneously helping another family start the family of their dreams.
Egg Sharer | Egg Recipient | |
Their Situation | Produces healthy eggs but needs IVF or Egg Freezing treatment | Needs donor eggs as they cannot produce high-quality eggs |
Their Benefit | Saves thousands of dollars on treatment | Receives high-quality eggs needed to grow family |
While this option is not available for everyone, it can be a great option for many pursuing Egg Freezing, IVF, and other fertility treatments.
In this article, you will find detailed information on our egg sharing/split egg cycles as well as eligibility requirements and one other program which can help you afford treatment through egg donation.
Who Is Eligible?
By completing an egg sharing or split egg cycle you are essentially donating eggs to fund your own IVF or Egg Freezing treatment. As such, you are entering our donor egg program as an egg donor. In order to maintain the integrity of our donor egg program and ensure other hopeful parents purchasing donor eggs are receiving high-quality eggs, all egg donors (even those looking to fund their own treatment) must meet our strict egg donation requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- 20-32 age
- BMI between 18-35
- Non-smoker non-active drug use
- Those pursuing a split-cycle may not have insurance coverage for IVF or Egg Freezing (your intended treatment)
Other Requirements
If you meet our basic requirements you will move forward in our egg donor screening process and undergo a full medical and genetic evaluation. In this testing, you must demonstrate a normal AMH, FSH, CBC, ALT, genetic panel, and other testing.
If you fail to meet any of these requirements you will not be eligible for our donor program or a split cycle.
Personas who often meet these requirements
- Those in the LGBTQ community
- Those seeking egg freezing prior to 33
- Those in a couple diagnosed with male factor infertility
- Those with tubal ligations (their tubes tied)
- Those with uterine factor infertility
- Those with tubal factor infertility
Of course, there could be other fertility diagnoses that still allow for people to donate their eggs and all cases will be examined individually.
Personas who often fail to meet these requirements
- Those who do not meet the basic requirements
- Those with diminished ovarian reserve
- Those who fail to pass the “other requirements”

Those pursuing an egg sharing or split-cycle program can be from anywhere in the USA. You must be willing to travel to the Syracuse, Albany, Buffalo, or Colorado Springs office for the egg retrieval.

- Apply to be an egg donor.
- When filling out the donor egg application, it is very important that you hit “Yes” for the question “Are you a CNY Fertility Patient?*” on the egg donation application. If you do not do this, you may be automatically eliminated due to your geographic location.
Good luck, we can’t wait to help you on your fertility journey!
Another Option: Donation Followed by Treatment Cycle
Besides completing an egg sharing cycle, CNY offers one other way that allows you to fund your treatment through egg donation. This program involves you first completing a full egg donation cycle in which you will donate all the eggs and be compensated $4,000. You can then use this $4,000 to pursue any fertility treatment you like. Because it not tied to an IVF or Egg Freezing cycle, this is a great option for those pursuing other treatments like tubal ligation reversals. but those pursuing this program must live within two hours of one of our fertility clinics (Syracuse, Albany, Rochester, or Buffalo New York or Colorado Springs, Colorado).
Program Details and Rules
- The patient completes a donor cycle in which CNY keeps all the eggs. CNY pays the patient $4,000 and covers the cost of medications and monitoring (if being done at CNY).
- The patient can use the $4,000 obtained from the donation cycle towards any treatment they would like. In this second treatment, the patient keeps all the eggs which may be utilized in any way they choose (ie. egg freezing or IVF).
Pros
- Get $4,000 (even if less than 6 eggs are retrieved). Do note that this $4,000 is considered income and is taxable.
- Can put funds towards any fertility treatment (are not restricted to IVF or Egg Freezing as treatment options).
- Keep all eggs on the second treatment cycle.
Cons
- Must live within 2 hours of a CNY Fertility office.
- Will still have some outside expenses
Applying for This Program
As this program requires you to complete an egg donation cycle prior to your own treatment, your first step is to apply to be an egg donor. Remember, you must be within 2 hours of our offices to apply otherwise you will be automatically rejected. At some point, either before or after completing your donor cycle, you will also need to schedule a consultation for your own treatment.
Other Important Details
Donor screening (Genetic and FDA testing) will be billed to CNY Fertility if that testing is done at CNY Fertility; however, if the patient chooses to complete screening at another facility you may incur fees.
