What Does IVF Cost in Florida? Breaking Down the Prices

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the most successful assisted reproductive technology available today, but its cost can be prohibitive to many Floridians.

The cost of a single In Vitro Fertilization cycle in Florida can be advertised for as little as $3,999 completed for as little as $4,994, and exceed $30,000 depending on the clinic, medication costs, add-on services, and more.  You’ll also find that the cost of IVF in major cities like Miami, Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville is higher than clinics in less affluent areas. With an average cost of IVF in the state of Florida around $15,000-20,000 and so much variability, what gives and what is included in the cost?

In this article, we break down the key components of IVF cost in Florida to uncover the base and total potential costs, discuss insurance coverage, and help you find resources to afford your IVF journey.

The Base Cost of IVF in Florida

IVF is a term used to broadly describe the complex and interconnected process of removing a woman’s eggs from the ovaries, fertilizing and growing them in a lab, and placing them back in the uterus one or two at a time.  With that general outline, there are many variations and supplementary services that can be added to personalize and improve outcomes.

The “base cost” of IVF can be considered the cost to perform the minimum services needed to provide IVF at a high standard of care. While personalized treatment can still be provided at this level, it forgoes some add-on services like Frozen Embryo Transfers and Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing, which your fertility care team may recommend.

In Florida, the “base cost” of IVF averages around $15,000, but it can be as little as $5,769 at CNY Fertility.

Below is a generally agreed list of the services that are required to safely and effectively complete IVF:

  • Egg Retrieval: Egg retrieval is the procedure of removing eggs from the ovaries.
  • Anesthesia: Anesthesia is part of the standard of care for egg retrievals to ensure the patient’s comfort during this minor surgical procedure.
  • Fertilization: During IVF, eggs are fertilized with sperm in the laboratory. There are two primary methods of fertilization. “Conventional IVF fertilization” involves prepping the sperm and putting them in a petri dish to fertilize the eggs. ICSI Fertilization involves directly injecting sperm into the egg.
  • Embryo Development/Culture: In IVF, embryos must be developed inside a lab for 3-7 days until they are ready for transfer.
  • Embryo Transfer: A fresh embryo transfer puts the (never before frozen) IVF embryos back into the uterus. A Frozen Embryo Transfer involves thawing and placing a previously frozen embryo back into the uterus.  Both are acceptable and offer similar success rates in many cases.
  • Cryopreservation and storage: Technically not required, but multiple embryos are often created in a single IVF cycle and must be frozen for future use.
  • Medications: Again, not technically required. However, medications are one of the most important aspects of IVF treatment; without medications, IVF’s success rate plummets. IVF medications are also one of the most costly aspects of IVF. Like most pharmaceutical drugs, IVF meds are usually sold by pharmacies and not quoted by fertility. Still, they are such an important part of IVF it is important to factor in their cost when coming up with a base cost estimate.

While fertility specialists generally agree that the above is what is needed to perform IVF safely and effectively, there is no industry standard for what makes up an IVF package.

This means that prices quoted by one fertility clinic may include more or fewer services than another clinic. For this reason, it is essential to look for exactly what the advertised price includes, understand what components NEEDED are, and what add-on services may be recommended to get a personalized estimate.

When calculating and comparing the cost of your IVF treatment in Florida, ensure that at least all of the above line items are accounted for.

IVF Cost at CNY Fertility in Sarasota Florida

At CNY Sarasota, our often-advertised price is $3,999 and includes:

  • Egg Retrieval with Anesthesia
  • ICSI Fertilization
  • Embryo culture and development
  • Assisted Hatching (AH)
  • Fresh Embryo Transfer
  • Cryopreservation

Notably, this does NOT include everything needed to complete an IVF cycle. Fortunately, CNY Fertility is transparent about these omissions, and there is a reason for them.

Required add-on services include monitoring and medications.

Monitoring

Local Monitoring: Having monitoring performed at our Sarasota office costs and additional $995. We omit this fee from our base price because over 70% of our clients travel to us from out of the area, state, or country and choose to have their monitoring done locally. This allows our patients to undergo IVF at our facility, but only need stay in Sarasota for a short 1-7 days.

Monitoring For Travel Patients: Due to our high quality, affordable care, about 70% of our patients at our Sarasota office travel more than 2 hours to our clinic and have their monitoring done remotely, closer to home. Travel patients are required to pay:

  • Remote Cycle Management: $150
  • Fees to their local medical facility to perform required ultrasounds and bloodwork: These fees are generally around $1,500

Medications

While not technically required to perform IVF, medications are used in over 99.99% of IVF cycles because they greatly improve success rates. CNY Fertility has partnered with premier specialty pharmacies to provide our $3,999 IVF bundled with our most common medication protocols.

  • Bundle #1: Low Stim/Mini IVF Bundle: $5,769
  • Bundle #2: Standard Stim IVF Bundle: $6,269
  • Bundle #3: High Stim IVF Bundle: $6,389

Medications may be purchased outside of our bundles, but with IVF medications purchased directly from a pharmacy costing over $5,000 alone at times, the majority of our self-pay patients purchase an IVF bundle which includes all of the services in our $3,999 IVF AND the required medications.

To summarize, you can get IVF with a full medication protocol completed in Florida for as little as $6,764 ($5,769 + $995) at CNY Sarasota.

As mentioned above, there are many other potential add-on services, from pre-implantation genetic testing to frozen embryo transfers, specialty immune protocols, donor sperm, donor eggs, and more.

As with our base IVF cost, monitoring, and treatment medication bundles, most of our add-on pricing is significantly below the Florida state average. Additional Costs Not Included in Base IVF Price

As mentioned above, IVF has many potential add-on services (and thus costs). Below we will go through the key add on services you may encounter as an IVF patient.

IVF Medications: $2000-$7000, Usually Billed by The Pharmacy.

While covered in our “base cost” above, medications are a vital aspect of IVF, incredibly costly, typically billed separately by a pharmacy, and therefore may not make it into your clinic’s base quote. As such, meds are important to discuss in more detail here.

The average cost of a standard IVF medication protocol is around $4,000 per cycle but can vary between $2,000-$7,000 based on the prescribed dosage, the medications used, the pharmacy you use, and whether you are paying out-of-pocket or through insurance.

This covers the regimen of injectable medications used to stimulate the ovaries to develop numerous high-quality eggs, prevent ovulation, and support the transfer of the embryo back into the uterus.

As mentioned above, CNY Fertility offers unique packages that include IVF and medications for as little as $5,769.

Frozen Embryo Transfers: $945-$7,000 Billed by the Fertility Clinic

Though rarely included in the base price of IVF, Frozen embryo transfers (FET) are a necessary procedure for a large percentage of patients, including those undergoing PGT, those whose uterine lining is not prepared for implantation in time for a fresh transfer, and those who have make multiple embryos and need or want to undergo subsequent embryo transfers.

The average cost of a Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) in Florida is around $5,000, but ranges from $945 here at CNY Sarasota to over $5,000 at other clinics, not including monitoring.

Ultrasound and Bloodwork monitoring during the stimulation phase of the IVF cycle, along with your medical history and desire for services like PGT (discussed below), will help you and your reproductive endocrinologist determine whether an FET is right for you.

Preimplantation Genetic Testing: $4,500 Billed by Both the Fertility Clinic and a Genetics Lab

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) screens an embryo’s genetic profile before transfer, helping identify embryos with the correct number of chromosomes or those free of genetic disorders. It can also determine the embryo’s sex.

PGT typically involves two costs: the fertility clinic’s fee for the biopsy ($200–$3,000) and the genetics lab’s fee for testing ($1,000–$3,500).

Since PGT results take time, embryos must be frozen, which incurs additional Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) fees. This process aims to improve IVF success rates but adds to overall treatment costs.

ICSI: $1500 Billed by the Fertility Clinic

The cost of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) averages around $1,500, though this can vary significantly. Some fertility clinics, like CNY, include ICSI in their standard package, while others may charge up to $3,000 or more for the procedure.

ICSI may not be necessary for everyone, but for many, it can be a valuable addition to their IVF treatment, as it often improves fertilization outcomes, particularly in cases of male infertility. It’s one of the most widely used fertilization techniques due to its effectiveness.

For those not opting for ICSI, conventional fertilization is an alternative, and this method is typically included in the base cost of IVF treatment at most clinics.

Cryopreservation + First Year Storage: $600 – Billed by the Fertility Clinic

Some fertility clinics may include cryopreservation and storage in their base IVF package, but it typically costs around $600, with an additional yearly storage fee.

Cryopreservation is a critical service for many IVF patients, as the process often results in the retrieval of multiple mature eggs. Each mature egg is fertilized and allowed to develop in the lab. After a few days of growth, patients may have several high-quality embryos ready for transfer.

Since most IVF patients opt for single embryo transfers, there are often more viable embryos than needed for a single cycle. The remaining high-quality embryos are typically frozen or cryopreserved for future use, allowing patients the opportunity to attempt additional transfers without undergoing another egg retrieval.

The Need for Multiple Cycles

The reality is that most IVF patients do not succeed on their first cycle and often proceed with a second, third, or even fourth round of treatment.

According to FertilityIQ, the average patient typically goes through 2.3 to 2.7 IVF cycles overall. In Florida, this leads to a total cost that approaches an average of around $12,000- $60,000 for treatment.

Does Insurance Cover IVF in Florida?

Florida does not have a state mandate requiring insurers to cover fertility treatments. Therefore, Insurance coverage for IVF in Florida varies based on individual insurance plans.

Some insurance policies may provide limited coverage for diagnostic tests and less invasive treatments like IUI, but some may cover IVF. In many cases, even if some portion of IVF treatment is covered, there are usually deductibles that must first be met, meaning you may have to pay a substantial amount before your insurance kicks in.

It’s essential to check the specifics of your insurance plan, as some employers may offer fertility benefits, while others may not. You can also explore supplemental insurance or financing options if your current plan does not cover IVF.

IVF Financing

Many Florida clinics provide financing options to help with IVF costs. Some, like CNY Sarasota, offer their own in-house financing, while most work with third-party lenders.

Additionally, there are independent lenders specializing in IVF and fertility loans. Personal loans from credit unions can also be a viable and accessible option for covering treatment expenses.

IVF Grants

IVF grants can significantly lower the cost of fertility treatments and, in some cases, even provide a free IVF cycle.

There are numerous grants available across the U.S., with some having specific residency or demographic requirements. However, many, such as the CNY IVF Grant, are open to all applicants and are awarded monthly.

IVF Cost in Florida: The Takeaway

IVF can be performed in Florida for anywhere from $5,769 to over $30,000 per cycle, including medications. This range is similar to the national average. Many patients will need multiple cycles to achieve success, often increasing total costs to $12,000–$60,000.

Add-on services such as frozen embryo transfers, genetic testing, and more can add to the base cost of IVF but may be necessary or recommended by your fertility care team, depending on your individual circumstances.

Insurance may be an option for some, but with no state mandate for IVF coverage, insurance will be dependent heavily on your employer. Financing options and IVF grants are other options that can help make treatment more affordable for those seeking assistance.
