Marlene & Matthew's Story:
My husband and I started dating in 2014 while I was a senior in college. While in college my periods became very irregular and I thought it was just the stress. After I graduated I decided to ask my OB about the issue. They did some bloodwork and determined I had PCOS. They put me on birth control and I had normal periods while on the birth control.
My husband and I got married in 2016 and knew we wanted kids so I stopped birth control. After stopping my birth control I didn’t have any periods. I decided to go to another Dr. who prescribed me Clomid. After many rounds of Clomid not working they switch me to femera. Between Clomid and femera I had 15 medicated cycles with no avail.
Also during these cycles, my husband had his sperm tested and his sperm count and motility weren’t the best. After all the oral medications weren’t working my OB referred me to a reproductive endocrinologist this was in the fall of 2018. I heard many great things about a clinic 2 hours from my home so I made an appointment there. They did some lab work and testing and found out I had PCOS, this was already known, and a blocked Fallopian tube. The Dr. decided it would be best to try IUI. My husband and I were really praying IUI would work but as my other medicated cycles I wasn’t producing a lot of mature eggs.
They decided to add some injectable medications with the oral pills. We did 4 IUI with no success. The clinic close to our home was just so expensive for IVF. So in fall 2019 I made my consult with CNY and wish I would’ve just chosen them first. In December 2019 I started my stimulation medication they started me on a low dose of medication and my follicles weren’t responding so I decided not to do the retrieval that cycle due to only having like 3 follicles.
In January 2020 I did another cycle with an increase in medication. I had my retrieval and they got 19 follicles, 5 were mature and 2 were fertilized. At first, I was devastated but I remained hopeful. With us only having 2 fertilized eggs they only grew them out to Day 3 embryos. My hormone levels allowed me to do a fresh day 3 transfer. The day before the transfer I did the HCG wash and one intralipid infusion.
On the day of the transfer Dr. Kiltz was amazing he prayed with my husband and I and transferred our day 3 embryo. The following two weeks were such a long wait but I had my first beta test done and it come back positive! But my number was low at only 27 so they repeated it and it was only 67 so it doubled but was still low. The following weeks were nerve-wracking but when we saw the heartbeat we could finally breathe a little!
Our pregnancy went pretty smoothly after the IVF process and on September 29 2021 we welcome our little baby boy Landon! I’m so glad we chose CNY and my only regret was not going to them first. We are so grateful and happy to have our healthy little boy!
Favorite Team Member at CNY:
Dr. Kiltz did our retrieval and embryo transfer he was amazing! He even prayed for us right before our transfer!
Helpful resources Marlene & Matthew found:
There was a Facebook group called CNY fertility support group and if I had a question I could ask ladies on there who where going though the process the same time as me.
Unique Moments:
One low I experienced was me and my husband suffered so much with infertility while other couples who got married the same time we did had many children before we even had one.
Hope, Inspiration and Advice:
Don’t ever lose hope! I was devastated that we only had 2 embryos but it truly only takes one!
